The Dr. V. A. Snow Centre actively supports the World Health Organization's definition of palliative care as a program of "Active total care of those patients whose disease is not responsive to curative treatment". We believe in quality of life in the final stages of life. We assist our residents in living fully until the very end of life, in dignity and in comfort, surrounded by a circle of care, support, compassion, life, meaning and community.
We endeavor to meet physical, psychosocial and spiritual needs through a multidisciplinary approach which includes our pastoral care team. The resident's family is included in this circle of care both as a recipient of our support and as a source of support for their loved one. Our staff participate in palliative care education to ensure optimum care. Our sunshine room transforms into a palliative care room overlooking our hope garden.
